Patio Fireplace

When you have a patio fireplace, you can use it in the same way you use the patio fireplace inside the home. When you start to build the fire, use kindling and paper to get the fire started. Then you can gradually start to add larger pieces of wood to keep the fire going. This type of fireplace is designed for use outdoors and should not be connected to a chimney inside an enclosed space. When you have it lit, it needs to be at least three feet away from the house or any combustible material. This is a good idea to keep in mind when you place the fireplace on the patio so that you won’t put in under trees or where someone may bang into it walking along the patio.

You should never use this fireplace on a wooden deck because this too is a combustible material. If the deck is made of wood flooring, you should have a fire resistant pad under the fireplace for safety reasons. This pad should be made of at least a one inch thickness of concrete paving and extend from all sides of the fireplace by at least one foot. The fireplace gets hot, so you should not touch it while it is burning and you have to keep young children away from it as well. An ash pan helps cleaning out the ashes a much easier chore because all you have to do is remove it, dump the ashes and replace the pan.

When you are not using the fireplace you should have a cover for it. This protects it from the elements of the weather. During the winter, you should remove the chimney and the rain cap. These can be stored in your shed to keep the, dry. You should never leave the fireplace directly on the ground for long periods of time because this may cause damage to it and you will have difficulty getting a fire going.
