To prepare the area for your Maryland brick patio, dig the area 1 inch greater than the thickness of the brick and the overall area should be 2 to 3 inches beyond the boundary you need. Install the boarder framing around your area. Level and fill with sand, that you lightly mist with water for better compacting of the brick. Tamp the sand to give it an even finish. Lay your brick and butt it as tightly as possible. Work from the outside in so as not to disturb the sand. Make sure you keep everything in line. This can be done with a string stretched across the grid. Check your brick to see if they are firmly in place. Cover the top of the brick with loose sand and sweep until all the seams are filled and your Maryland brick patio is ready to use.
