Deck CoversBlocking out light, totally or just partially, and providing shelter from the rain or simply adding to the splendor of an outdoor living space, deck covers come in a wide assortment of styles, ranging from pergolas to lattice types, made from various kinds of wood, aluminum, or vinyl, to solid roofs. Moreover, deck covers are a highly suggested deck accessory. Pergolas are structures with parallel beams that allow light to pass through and sport an open roof. Usually made of wood, pergolas are very aesthetically pleasing and create an impressive lighting atmosphere around your deck. Climbing vines and trees also look quite charming on and around this particular type of covering. If the desired effect is to totally block out the light and rain, then a solid roof is the preferred choice. Often the solid roof structure only occupies part of the deck, which leaves the remainder of the deck to be used when the weather is enjoyable. Of the materials used for roofing over a deck, most people favor wood as it tends to be more warm and appealing. Vinyl and aluminium both share the advantage of being basically maintenance free, with perhaps the exception of occasional cleaning, but are sometimes considered to be not as pleasant on the eyes. Thick vinyl is also a wise choice if it is the material to be used as it can withstand extremely windy conditions much better than thinner vinyl. However, this does come at some expense as it is more costly. Generally vinyl and aluminium structures will be more expensive than their wooden counterpart. If they are to be used, it is recommended to shop around and ask questions about the quality of the product and what should be utilized given the climate in the area. Composite wood and synthetic materials, while they are practically free of maintenance, offer very little in the way of structural support.
