Deck ConstructionThere are many things to consider in deck construction. It can add to and enhance your home tremendously if you know how to get this project accomplished. There are some things that apply that will help you to build the beautiful deck you are looking for. If you have to build a low level deck depending on your property, try to build in a dry area to prevent the build up of moisture, and be firm enough to support your deck. If the area you’ve chosen is damp. then you need to consider adding drainage of some kind before you start. Deck floors differ from regular flooring of a home. You have to use individual planks versus plywood. It is important to make sure that your flooring is going to be able to carry the anticipated weight load. Planks used should be 25 mm thick with the width being 89 mm. The design load capacity of a deck should be 1.9 kpa for a live load and 0.5 kpa for a dead load. Always take weather into consideration before construction. The size of your joists will depend on how big your deck is going to be. The bigger the deck the bigger the joists you have to use based on the same weight factor. There is a difference in incised joist and beams and not incised. When a beam is in the middle of a deck, supporting joists on both sides of the beam must double the number of plys depending on the size. This applies to the not incised beams, when the beam is in the middle supporting joist on both sides, then it must be added for support. It is extremely important that your deck is sturdy enough for what you need it for and able to take the weight that you anticipate.
