Cedar is another one of the softwoods, which can be used on your deck. Cedar is ideal for high moisture climates. It comes in many colors and has an attractive grain. Cedar contains natural oils that help prevent rot and insect attack. It can be left untreated and will weather naturally from the elements or you can use a preservative on it to help to preserve the wood and keep it looking good. This wood has a dense cell structure, which restricts the chance of it shrinking or swelling.

Pressure treated wood is very popular. This is some part due to the lower cost and the great product that it is. Pressure treated wood is already treated with various types of salt to prevent this wood from rotting. This type of wood comes in different grades whether you want to use it on the ground or on your deck. Decks built with this type of wood need a wood preservative or it will start to rot within a few years. Upkeep and preservatives will help to protect your investment.
