Custom Patio FurnitureWhen you choose to have wooden custom patio furniture, the best advice is to go with teak as the building material. Teak has superior durability properties that make it excellent for furniture that will be left outdoors in all kinds of weather. Not only is it very smooth, but it doesn’t splinter and it contains oils that make it resistant to rot, insects and mold. It doesn’t warp and has a pleasant aroma that will only add to the appeal of your patio. You can choose to maintain the furniture on the patio or leave it like it is. Teak is very expensive and whether you stain it or not, it can easily last 50 years or more. However, when you pay a lot of money for your furniture, you need to keep it looking fresh and new. It really depends on your preference for the color of the wood. If you leave teak alone, it will weather to a gray color, but you can stain it so that it retains its brown color. To preserve the original color of the wood, you must rub teak oil and chemical brighteners on the furniture every few months. If you decide to paint or stain the wood, you need to use a sealant that will keep the UV rays of the sun from fading out the color. When you oil teak furniture, you have to sand it down first in the same direction as the grain of the wood. When you start to oil it, you should use a paintbrush to start at the top of the chair and then move down to the bottom. After a few minutes this oil gets sticky and then you can wipe off any excess oil. When it dries, buff the chair and apply a second coat. If you notice stains on the car, you can clean them off using a regular household cleaner and a stiff brush. A cheaper alternative to using teak is to use cedar or redwood, but there are disadvantages to both of these woods. They don’t last as long as teak and require yearly maintenance if you want to preserve the color of the wood.
