Concrete Patio

An ordinary concrete patio can be transformed into a place of beauty quite easily. If it is fresh concrete, you can start covering it with many different elaborate coverings. If the concrete is older and has some cracks, you might want to look at repairing those before you go any farther. Ceramic and slate have traditionally been used to give new life to dull concrete, You do have to make sure that if you are using these to cover any concrete with cracks in it, that the cracks will not widen because if it does, the ceramic or slate tiles will eventually get damaged.

Terracotta tiles look wonderful on a patio, but you have to be careful when using them over concrete. There is a lot of difference in the amount of water that the tiles can absorb and in colder climates, this water could freeze and cause the tiles to crack. At the same time, high-glazed tiles, while they do not absorb a lot of water, tend to be quite slippery when it is raining. You have to be careful about injuries.

Natural stone is another attractive way to liven up the concrete on the patio. This is a more expensive option and in order to get the done perfectly, you either have to take great care if you are doing the installation yourself or hire a professional to do it.

The most versatile cover when you have concrete on a patio is the interlocking patio tiles that are new to the market. You simply place the tiles on the concrete and lock them together. It is really simple and you don’t need any special skill or knowledge, not do you need to use any glue, nails or screws. Since they are not attached to the concrete itself, you can take them up whenever you want. They are well-suited for all types of weather and will even cover any imperfections in the concrete.
